The first of July was a day like no other. Anthony chucked a uncle youssef (melbourne) and started pacing the halls of our home at 4 am ready to leave, due to Anthonys restless behaviour we woke up before the brink of day, however Sharbel was still late, luckly we made it on time due to his father going above 40km/h... for once. After we checked in we sat restless not knowing what adventures were to come our way. We sat there beads of sweet puddling at the base of our backs, palms damp and adrenaline slowly pumping through our veins. These were all the symptoms of eagerness of adventure.
As we boarded the planes we knew we were doomed, it was like being stuck in a seat for 12 hours... it was exactly like it, it was like a sardiene can. Sharbels sleeping pills didnt work so he had to face reality, and all we heard was his bickering for the full flight, however his backpack of snacks such as beetroot and sweet potato chips and lightly sparkeling mineral water helped us get through the flight.
Once we finaly met up with Anthony in Bejing, he had already prepared a taxi for us which was the most un-liscenced, illegal and over priced taxi that ever existed, the pain of what he charged us drifted away as we entered the china word hotel, its dim lighting and marbel finishes made us feel like kings for just that second. but the bill brang us back to reality.

ReplyDeleteAh yes very exciting! Dont stress cabbies always slug tourists. always ask the hotel how much the cabbie should charge before you organise one. Anyway doesnt all the wealth get spread in china? Divide whatever you paid by 1billion thats how much richer the chinese people are thanks to you!

ReplyDeleteWe got to the hotel very last last night so we ordered a light snack from room service at 4am. Pancakes, club sandwich and a mixed basket of pastries.
